Trust your hearing to the doctor

Audiologists are hearing healthcare professionals specializing in identifying, diagnosing, treating and monitoring disorders of the auditory and vestibular system portions of the ear. We are trained to diagnose, manage and/or treat hearing or balance problems. We dispense hearing aids and recommend and map cochlear implants. We counsel families through a new diagnosis of hearing loss in infants and children, and help teach coping and compensation skills to late deafened adults. We also help design and implement personal and industrial hearing safety programs, newborn hearing screening programs, school hearing programs, and provide special fitting earplugs and other hearing protection devices to help prevent hearing loss. In addition, many audiologists work as auditory scientists in a research capacity.

Audiologists have training in anatomy and physiology, hearing aids, cochlear implants, electrophysiology, acoustics, neurology, counseling and sign language. An audiologist usually graduates with one of the following qualifications (Au.D, PhD, or ScD), depending on the program attended.

Beth Smith, Au.D, CCC-A (Audiologist/Owner)

Dr. Smith is a graduate of the University of Tennessee and the University of Florida. She has 18 years of experience that includes serving as president of the Tennessee Academy of Audiology in 2009.

She was a staff audiologist (primarily pediatric) for The Medical College of Georgia (MCG), a clinical instructor for the school of medicine at MCG, and a member of the Cranial Facial and Cleft Lip Palate Teams at MCG. She was formerly director of audiology at Augusta Associates of ENT in Augusta, Georgia.

She opened Allied Hearing Care in 2003 to provide quality hearing health care to the residents of the North Nashville areas. She has continued to be well received by the medical community of North Nashville and receives referrals from doctors affiliated with Skyline, North Crest, Hendersonville, and Sumner Regional hospitals, as well as other doctors throughout the Middle Tennessee region.
